This is different

Live a better healthier life

I know, I know. Yet ANOTHER notice about the Corona virus. But this one’s different.

Predictions:

1. What’s going to happen: Things are getting weird. They’re going to get weirder. Then they will get better.

It’s a new virus. It’s very contagious. It gets people very sick. A small percentage of those people die. That totally sucks.

2. What „everybody“ is going to do: Most people are going to continue to panic and then they’ll stop.

They’re going to panic for two reasons. First, because this is a new virus and it’s pretty nasty and that’s pretty scary. Second, because of the media …specifically social media.

It’s full of anecdotal „reports“ …and light on facts. We humans like to pass on „information“ without checking it out.

And traditional media (the news) gets paid for viewership …and nothing drives viewership like FEAR.

In my opinion, and my personal experience, the World Health Organization is probably the best place to get your info about this situation. Check it out here https://www.who.int

What we’re doing at Physio First in Horgen:

  1. Staff are cleaning surfaces and equipment multiple times per day. Professional cleaners are in twice a week.
  2. We ask clients to wash their hands before and after sessions. Simple hand washing practices remain one of the most effective tools in preventing infection.
  3. We also respectfully ask that you please ensure you cover your mouth with your elbow if you are about to sneeze or cough in the gym and wash your hands immediately after.
  4. We prefer clients to replace traditional handshake greetings and high fives with non-contact greetings and congratulations.
  5. Bare feet and socks are not permitted.
  6. If you are feeling unwell please stay home and seek medical advice to help stop the spread of any infectious germs.
  7. One of the best preventions is to stay fit and healthy, so let’s keep it up! There’s nothing better for your immune system than proper nutrition, exercise, fresh air and sunlight.

What I’m doing personally:

1. Avoiding large crowds, washing my hands, and keeping my immune system strong.

Kind of standard issue behavior anyway.

2. Not paying attention to anyone other than non-biased expert health organizations

That means no social media. No news media. Just facts.

I get my info from the World Health organization’s site. I don’t skim it, I read it ALL so I’m well informed.

We could debate about where the best source of information is but that would be a waste of time. Almost as much of a time-suck as spending all day on Social Media and watching the news.

A much better use of our time is …

3. Focusing on health!

Look. I can’t do anything about this situation other than follow the basic common-sense instructions that actual doctors are giving us all. Avoid large crowds, wash hands, protect immune system.

Stay calm and stay positive. Think about the best thing you can do for your own health and the health and wellbeing of those around you right now.

OK – that’s it. We’re going to get through this. Obsessing over it, worrying about it, and panic …that’s all OPTIONAL. I suggest you opt out of that and stay positive!
